[i]beatonna: I wonder if James Monroe really had it goin' on

Did you think I forgot about the list of 20 comics to make? This one is on it. Except this comic is so silly, it is so silly oh god.

Here, learn something, I am of no use to anybody.

[i]beatonna: Good As My Word, Honest

If you’ve been reading my livejournal (and if you are reading this entry I assume you have), maybe you remember the several times I have mused ‘oh maybe I will sell something, hm hmm I don’t know.’  As a matter of fact I get asked quite a lot to put something up for sale, and well, I apologize for not doing it for so long.

however!

This afternoon, that changes! We are doing a little test with the good folks at www.topatoco.com , and this means some shirts and prints for real! It is pretty exciting. What will be offered are the things I have had the most requests for on both a shirt and a print (which I colored all by myself, can you believe!). That leaves the items themselves as a mystery, though I think it will be easy to guess, but you will have to check it out!

You can keep an eye out, as it is going up soon soon soon but I will edit this entry when is does so this is your Heads Up Y'all.

I am all over your livejournal today, ain't I a stinker

[i]beatonna: How to ruin a German's breakfast

Everyone loves a hero. And by that I mean I love a hero. Aside from being a strategical genius and meticulous planner, John Monash took a broken army and gave them spirit again, protected them as much as he could and showed them victory. He was, I am trying to say, a hell of a guy.

read more? Of course!

Canadians take a special pride in Amiens as well, hoorah for the colonials?

[i]beatonna: Down Under

I have been reading about Australian history lately, because of two things:

1- I just made a comic about John Franklin who was the one time Lieutenant-Governor of Tasmania. Tangentially, more interesting is his wife, the lovely Lady Jane Franklin, who was a pretty awesome lady indeed and took the opportunity while in Australia to shove tea parties aside in favour of mountain-climbing and bush-roughing and maybe some adventure. Shocking!

2- Requests from Australians for some Representation, Please. Of course of course! We are all part of the Commonwealth are we not!  My uncles get weepy when someone sings 'And the Band Played Walzting Matilda.'  You guys still have the Union Jack on your flag though.   Has Australia ever petitioned for a new flag?  Canada tried a few times before we got out big old leaf but there were some ugly ass designs, man.

This is interesting stuff! As for formal education on the topic, I have only read this book, the focus of which is not the colony per se but it has a lot to do with it. Good times, good times. Anyone with a History degree might remember well E.P. Thompson's other huge book that everyone is made to read in British history, at the time I thought it was Way Ultra Boring myself but you couldn't convince a certain Professor Torrance that if the book put you in a dang old coma. 848 pages! Doctor Torrance you are killing me.

[i]giuliacucina posting in [i]italiano: Bougainvillea

Does anyone know how to say "bougainvillea" in Italian? Can't find it in any of my dictionaries. It is that lovely purple/magenta type flower that grows in vines and is all over everything on the isle of Capri.

Grazie in advance!

[i]wanderingeye: Trying to make a reappearance

Now that I have just made it through another time consuming, intensive phase in my life (completing the coursework for my doctorate and all the comprehensive qualifying exams!), and am about to begin a lighter phase and may actually have free time and mental energy, I would like to try to begin incorporating this journal back into my life again.
But in order to do that, I think I need to start fresh. Most of the usernames on my friend list I feel like I don't know at all. So I am going to clear off most names, and begin again, as it as been years since I was really here. Good luck to everyone who has kept me on their list for so long while I've been gone, I appreciate it.

[i]beatonna: Reaching for the Beaufort Sea

Photobucket

The search for the Northwest Passage is one of the great adventures of this county, though what drove men out there is something Stan Rogers understood and I do not. A lot of dudes had a hard on for the Passage, but the most notorious of these is probably John Franklin.

[i]beatonna: Stumptown Comics Hospital

Hello again, it is the internet! So cold and machine-ey after being in the real world where real people live. I was at the Stumptown comics festival! I have to say there were a lot of wonderful people there and it was a little overwhelming but it was very nice! Unfortunately for everyone in attendance, if you were there, well that sound which was like a rusty bicycle running over a pack of geese, that was me. I came down with a plague! And everyone suffered.

[i]freakout:

My mom yelled at Karen for giving Trinity nail polish for her birthday. I don't have a problem with nail polish, but my mom says it's "not good for kids" and that it's a fire hazard. This afternoon she told us all "you have to watch that, because the fumes could start a fire." Just to clarify, the nail polish Karen gave Trinity was your average 1 oz. (or whatever) bottle, it wasn't an industrial sized bucket the size of a paint can.

My mom told Trinity to call her when she tried on the new dress my mom bought her, to let her know if it fit. After she tried it on, she immediately called my mom... and tells her the dress did fit, but then she started it on fire with the nail polish. "It was fine, though. I stopped, dropped and rolled," she added.

My mom told her she would punch her in the mouth and said "tsk" (tsk means, I interpret your sarcasm, and I can't believe you said that). Then she asked Trinity if she had a good time today. "No!" Trinity shouted, in a very "duh" kind of tone, "I'M ON FIRE!"

[i]smirkin: preventing the dreaded sock tan

It's spring, which means I have a couple of weeks at best to wear skirts to work until my sock tan gets so bad that I start looking like a freak show. I always end up with a jacked-up tan from running: sock tan, tank top straps, etc. It's kind of hard to wear a skirt with the whole sock tan thing going on, and it just gets worse as the summer progresses. I could cover it up with pantyhose, but who the hell wants to wear pantyhose in the summer? Besides, it seems like women my age tend to go bare-legged these days.

I know the simple solution is to just go out and tan, but I hate tanning. I have absolutely no desire to end up looking like a leather handbag thirty years from now. There's also that whole skin cancer thing.

But I'm going to have to do something this year. First off, I really would like to be able to wear skirts to work when it's 90 degrees outside. Secondly, I'm getting married in six months, and I'm in my friend's wedding two weeks before my own. The bridesmaid's dress is strapless, and my dress has small straps, so any freakish tan lines are going to be obvious. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, honestly.

HELP!
